My Personal Poem for 2009 (What’s Yours?)
I just got through reading Diana Adams’ post on BitRebels.com entitled 10 Lessons I learned on Twitter. A lot of it might have seemed obvious (e.g. ignore online bullies, be open-minded), but definitely needed stating – and was true, and exactly to the point. Diana Is a great writer, and I urge you to read that post.
At the end of her post, she posted her poem for this year. It was built by a clever template, in which you need to fill out the last few words of ever line.
I decided to write my own poem using that same template, and I attributed it to everything I’ve learned in 2009:
I’m learning to give more than I take
And I’m learning to take example from people I look up to
And I’m learning to earn friends
Not “get friends”, when I engage
And I’m learning not to be too stubborn
And I’m learning not to be “that guy”
And I’m learning (though it sometimes really hurts me)
Not to chew my own arm off to spite the other arm
And I’m learning to thank people
When I am rewarded
And I’m learning that it’s much
Much easier to be nice than it is to be an asshole
But who cares about me? Let’s see what YOU learned from 2009: http://ettcweb.lr.k12.nj.us/forms/lifelesson.htm
